Scales Used In Music

Every piece of music ever composed is based around a particular scale or a specific selection of scales whether that scale is one of the recognized traditional set of scales or a theoretical, synthetic scale.

The Major Scale Is A Great Place To Start Your Quest For A Greater Understanding of Music Theory and Scale Usage.

On the piano a "tone" is the distance between any two ajacent notes side by side as long as there is a key in-between. On the guitar a "tone" is a two fret distance between any two notes on a particular string. For example, a tone would be the distance between the A note at the 5th fret on the first string up to the B note (7th fret) on the first string. A semi-tone is the distance between any two ajacent notes side by side.

Major Scale Pattern

All major scales follow this pattern: Tone, Tone, Semi-Tone, Tone, Tone, Tone, Semi-Tone. A major scale must consist of the aforementioned scale formula regardless of the key that the scale belongs to.
